ROME - The cars, the helicopter, his luggage, thank you and good night… A great Pope who goes away like that. A great Pope, who was the vicar of Christ on earth, the Pastor of the Universal Church, the greatest moral authority for one billion two hundred thousand people around the world, now leaves his office gliding gently in the greatness of his humility, with the simplest pilgrim’s step, with his background of man who returns to man, giving away any solemnity that does not relate to his love for man, his trust in them, his courage, his deepest choices. A great Pope, after being one of the most "powerful" people of the Earth, leaves office showing the world how magnificent can be to give up power, how sublime can be the simplicity that shapes everyone’s heart with one big and revolutionary human example.

A man who believes in other men, in their ability to do better than him, in his obligation to leave the job to someone else, with the strong hope that this decision could increase the freshness and energies in his Church. A great Pope goes away leaving behind him, among other legacies, a perfect social paradigm, geometric in its value: selflessness, generosity, ability to take care of the collective interest and nothing else. His own interest doesn’t matter. Let’s hope that this gift will benefit everyone, believers and non-believers. A great teaching that goes beyond the gift of faith.
