Who he is

Timur Ivanov was born on August 19, 1975, in Moscow. Growing up in a wealthy family, his father Vadim Gennadyevich has been the general director of Crystal Development LLC since 2004, while his mother is of Lezgin origin. In 1997, Timur Ivanov graduated from the Moscow Faculty of Mathematics and subsequently worked for commercial organizations, becoming a major entrepreneur.

The appointment as deputy minister

On May 23, 2016, Timur Ivanov was appointed Deputy Minister of Defense and officially took office on November 11, replacing Dyumin. Until the outbreak of the pandemic, he played minor roles, with COVID he was involved in organizing facilities for patients affected by COVID-19.

The war

At the moment, Timur Ivanov's role in the organization of the war in Ukraine is still unclear. What is certain is that the European Union in October 2022 introduced some sanctions considering the Russian Deputy Minister of Defense as one of the main architects of the outbreak of the war.

The arrest

On Tuesday, April 23, in a note from the press office of the Basmanny court in Moscow, at the request of the investigative authorities, they decided to execute a preventive measure, for the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Timur Vadimovich Ivanov, in the form of detention for a period of two months, until June 23, 2024. Timur Ivanov was accused of receiving a bribe along with Sergei Borodin, previously arrested. According to the independent Russian media 'iStories' citing two sources close to the FSB: «The motivation of the bribe is for the public. So far they do not want to speak publicly about treason: it's a big scandal. Nobody would have arrested him for corruption. Everyone there knew it for a long time. Putin gave the order after being convinced that it was indeed treason».

Personal life

Deputy Minister Timur Ivanov has had two marriages: the first with a woman with whom he had two daughters, Darya born in 2010 and Praskovnya born in 2018. The second marriage with Svetlana Zakharova Maniovich, an entrepreneur and owner of the Metropol Fashion Group, marriage ended in June 2022 a few months after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
