Basilicata Regional Elections: A Day of Voting and Candidate Overview

The polls in Basilicata opened at 7 for the election of the regional council president and for the renewal of the regional council of the twelfth Lucanian legislature. Voting takes place today, until 23:00, and tomorrow from 7:00 to 15:00. There are 567,947 eligible voters, divided into 682 sections (229 in the province of Matera; 453 in the province of Potenza) in the 131 Lucanian municipalities. Basilicata, the broad center-right challenges the PD-5S: today the double test of the Regionals. The candidates: Three candidates are running for president. In the united center-right, the incumbent president, the General of the Guardia di Finanza Vito Bardi, is running for a second term, supported by seven lists (Brothers of Italy, League, Forza Italia, UDC, Action, Lucanian Pride, The True Basilicata). He is challenged by Piero Marrese, lawyer, mayor of Montalbano Jonico and president of the Province of Matera, who is supported by five lists (PD, 5 Star Movement, Basilicata Common Home, United Basilicata, AVS-Europe Green-Left Italian-PSI-The Possible Basilicata). Also in the running is Eustachio Follia, a journalist from Matera, supported by the Volt movement, which has proposed itself as an alternative to both Bardi and Marrese. Voter Turnout at 12: Turnout at the Basilicata regionals at 12 was down. In 682 sections out of 682, the figure stands at 9.12%, against 13.31% in 2019. In Matera, 9.74% voted (13.08 in 2019), in Potenza 8.84% (13.42 in the previous elections). Voter Turnout at 19: The turnout at the polls in Basilicata for the regional elections is at 27.56 percent: in 2019 - when, however, voting took place only on Sunday - at the same time it was at 39.73 percent. In the province of Potenza, the turnout was 26.88 percent (39.24 in 2019), in that of Matera 29.11 (compared to 40.82 of the past regional election). In Potenza, 38.72 percent of those entitled to vote went to the polls (they were 53.89 five years ago); in Matera 30.79 (against 44.39 percent in 2029). Voter Turnout at 23: The turnout of Lucanian voters in the regional elections that began today in Basilicata, where voting will also take place tomorrow, from 7 to 15, is at 37.74 percent. In 2019, the turnout at the close of the polls was 53.52 percent but that was also the final percentage, because voting took place only on Sunday. Today, in the province of Matera the first day of voting ended with a turnout of 40.98 percent (56.03% in 2019); in the province of Potenza the turnout is at 36.31 percent (52.40 percent five years ago). In Potenza, at 23:00 the percentage was 49.92 percent (68.79 percent five years ago); in Matera it was 41.66 percent (in 2019 it was 59.89 percent)
