Tragic Passing of Young Footballer Mattia Giani at 26

Mattia Giani has died at the age of 26, struck down by cardiac arrest while playing football. The young man passed away after several hours of fighting between life and death at the Careggi hospital in Florence, where he had been transferred after receiving first aid. Giani played for Castelfiorentino United in the Excellence Championship of Tuscany. Mattia Giani died after feeling unwell on the field. His father stated: 'There was no doctor, we will file a lawsuit.' A tremendous pain for all his loved ones, especially for his girlfriend Sofia Caruso, who wanted to remember him this way on social media: 'We were at our happiest, my love,' the girl wrote, 'but thank you for taking care of me and making me understand true love. You are and will always be the love of my life, Matti.' The young woman's post continues: 'I will love you forever and to infinity. You are the purest person I have ever known, and you always promised me that you would never leave me alone. Please, protect me forever and give me all the strength in the world from up there. Goodbye my love, always smile like that and teach everyone to play football. I am proud of you, forever. A kiss as big as the universe.' Mattia Giani was originally from Ponte a Egola (Pisa), where he lived. He was a true promise, several teams have competed for his performances in recent years: in 2015 he was part of the Empoli Primavera, then the move to Pisa, Ponsacco, Grosseto, and Savona. In 2022 he joined Castelfiorentino United. The illness that struck him occurred precisely on the anniversary of the death of Piermario Morosini, which occurred in 2012.
