Tragic Incident: Influencer Giulia Manfrini Killed by Swordfish Attack in Indonesia

An incident in one of the surfers' paradises. This is how Giulia Manfrini, a 36-year-old influencer from Venaria Reale (Turin), died, a victim of a swordfish attack yesterday morning in the Mentawai Islands, Indonesia. The woman was surfing in the waters of Pulau Masokut island when suddenly, according to the reconstruction given to the Indonesian agency Antara by the acting head of the Mentawai Islands Regional Disaster Management Agency, Lahmudin Siregar, "a swordfish jumped towards Manfrini and struck her in the chest." Giulia suffered a deep cut of at least five centimeters in the upper part of her chest. She still had the strength to call for help from two people who were on site, who provided first aid and transported her to the Pei Pei Pasakiat Taileleu medical center. But there was nothing to be done. Authorities are working on the repatriation of the body to Italy. A transfer from the Pei Pei Community Health Center to the city of Padang and then an airplane flight is being arranged. Who was Giulia Manfrini Born and raised in Venaria, where her parents live, Giulia Manfrini, graduated in law from the University of Turin, had recently moved to Portugal. She had always been a sports enthusiast. She started on the snow from a young age, becoming a ski instructor and, especially, a snowboard instructor, a discipline in which she also participated in three editions of the Winter Universiade. Her passion for the sea took over in later years, leading her to specialize in surfing, a sport she practiced around the world for some time. She also founded a travel agency that organizes sports trips and vacations, and thanks to social media, she became a particularly followed figure within the Italian surfing community. Condolences "The entire community of Venaria," says Mayor Fabio Giulivi, "stands with Giulia's family. Her death has left us shocked and makes us feel powerless in the face of the tragedy that took her from life so prematurely." The news reached the city late this morning, when her mother, Chiara, a family doctor, and her father, Giorgio, a lawyer, were informed. The Regency of the Mentawai Islands, where the incident occurred, is an internationally popular tourist destination, especially for surfing enthusiasts. Tourists from various countries make Bumi Sikerei (the nickname for Mentawai) the best place to chase waves after Hawaii. Giulia Manfrini's is not the first incident involving surfers. An American, Erick Robert Soreker, also died in the waters of the South Pagai district last June.
