The Mafia Network: The Arrest of Matteo Messina Denaro's Sister and Accomplices

The prosecutors of the DDA (Direzione Distrettuale Antimafia) of Palermo, Piero Padova and Gianluca de Leo, have requested a 20-year prison sentence for Matteo Messina Denaro's sister, Rosalia, accused of aggravated mafia association and receiving stolen goods. The woman has been in prison since March of last year. According to investigators, she helped her brother evade capture for years and managed on his behalf the 'cashbox' of the mafia 'family' and the network for transmitting 'pizzini', thus allowing the mafia boss to maintain contact with his men during his long period of being a fugitive. Messina Denaro, the architect (who managed the funds of the PNRR) and the radiology technician: the 'unsuspecting' supporters of the boss arrested. Who is Rosalia, the profile Rosalia Messina Denaro is the eldest of Messina Denaro's four sisters, the mother of Lorenza Guttadauro, a lawyer who has defended the mafia boss since the day of her arrest, and the wife of Filippo Guttadauro who has served 14 years for mafia association and is currently in prison serving a 'white life sentence'. The woman's second son, Francesco, the favored grandson of the Trapani godfather, is serving a 16-year sentence also for mafia association. Another sister of the former fugitive, Patrizia, is in jail for mafia-related charges. In December 2022, in the leg of a chair at Rosalia's house, the Carabinieri of the ROS found a 'pizzino', a sort of medical record of the mafia boss that led them to the discovery of the illness the then-fugitive was suffering from and then to his arrest on January 16, 2023, in front of the La Maddalena clinic in Palermo.
