Tennis in Piazza: Bringing the Game to the Heart of Rome

“This year, the Italian Internationals are coming to Piazza del Popolo, with pre-qualification matches and exhibitions featuring either Sinner or Berrettini. Together with Mayor Gualtieri and colleagues from the Council, we have chosen to support the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation's project to bring great tennis even more into the city center, in the most suggestive scenario of Baroque Rome,” states Alessandro Onorato, Rome Capital's Councilor for major events, tourism, fashion, and sports. “With the 'Tennis in Piazza' initiative - Onorato continues - which will allow setting up a temporary clay tennis court in Piazza del Popolo, the sport will reach everyone, Romans and tourists, adults and children, eliminating all social and economic barriers. This is the real purpose of sports activity, the best way to promote a healthy lifestyle focused on the well-being of the individual. Moreover, as we have been saying for some time, major events must actively involve the entire city. In the latest editions of the Internationals, we have expanded the tournament's perimeter thanks to targeted communication in the metro, in the city center streets, and on the bridges, but also with themed evenings. This year, which will mark a further record of attendance and economic impact for Rome, we will manage to bring professional tennis players to Piazza del Popolo.
