Scandal at Catholic Funeral for Renowned Trans Activist in New York

It's not every day that at a Catholic funeral the deceased is described with the following words: «She was a whore, a great whore, the mother of all whores», starting an enthusiastic applause from the crowd present in the church. Naturally, leaving the poor priest sitting in a corner looking like a piece of stone.

In St. Patrick's Cathedral, in New York, at the funeral of a well-known trans person who called herself Cecilia Gentili and was a very famous activist of the LGBT+ community - as well as being a well-known prostitute, openly atheist - provocative words flew against the faith, even mocking the Church. The spectacle seems to have been so bad and borderline blasphemous that it forced the American diocese to condemn the incident. After the funeral, a fiery note was issued to explain that they will now have to celebrate a mass of reparation for what happened.

The rite

Everything started when a group of “activist” trans friends of Cecilia took the floor next to the deceased's coffin and began to mock the Church while the rite was being celebrated. The two, alternating at the pulpit, speaking in English and Spanish, summarized Cecilia Gentili's activity on the microphone. «This whore... This great whore... Saint Cecilia, Mother of all whores! (...) help us carry on your legacy» Applause followed, standing ovation, like inside a stadium. The diocese denounced the «scandalous behavior at a funeral». The priests announced that they had granted the funeral rite without precisely knowing Cecilia Gentili's story. «The Cathedral only knew that the family and friends were requesting a funeral mass for a Catholic». The organizers did not specify that Gentili, who died on February 6 at the age of 52, was an atheist and a biological man who had identified as a woman for years.
