Riot Breaks Out at Ponte Galeria Detention Centre Following Suicide of 22-Year-Old Migrant

14 migrants were arrested by police for yesterday's riot at the Cpr in Ponte Galeria, in the province of Rome. The disorder broke out after a 22-year-old from Guinea committed suicide. The young man was found dead yesterday morning. Some guests broke down two iron grates, tried to break down an iron door, and set a police car on fire. They then threw stones at the police trying to leave the facility: to quell the disorder, the police launched tear gas. Two carabinieri were injured during the riot. The Rome prosecutor's office has opened a file for incitement to suicide. Prosecutor Attilio Pisani will assign the task to the coroner to perform the autopsy on the body of the young man who committed suicide by hanging himself with a sheet in the repatriation center where he had arrived a few days ago from Sicily. At the same time, investigators will acquire images from the video surveillance system present in the center, as well as the note left by the 22-year-old before committing suicide. After the death of the young man, riots broke out and 14 migrants were arrested by the police.
