Olivia Munn's Brave Battle with Breast Cancer

"I was diagnosed with breast cancer," Olivia Munn, a 43-year-old American actress from Oklahoma City known for her role in X-Men and friend of Elisabetta Canalis, wrote in her latest Instagram post. Through the Instagram post that shows photos and videos of her in the hospital, the actress wanted to share the story of her illness with her followers. "I have already had four surgeries in ten months. I hope that by sharing this, I can help others find comfort, inspiration, and support in their own journey." In February 2023, in an attempt to simply check on my health, I underwent a genetic test that checks ninety cancer genes - Olivia Munn wrote on Instagram. I tested negative for all of them, including BRCA (the most well-known breast cancer gene). My sister Sara was also negative. We called each other and high-fived over the phone. That same winter, I also had a negative mammogram. Two months later, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. In the last ten months, I have undergone four surgeries, so many days spent in bed I can’t even count, and I have learned more about cancer, cancer treatment, and hormones than I ever could have imagined. Strangely, I've only cried twice. I guess I didn’t feel the time to cry. My focus was sharpened, and I set aside the emotions that I felt would interfere with my ability to stay clear-headed. I preferred to keep the diagnosis, the worry, the recovery, and the pain medicine private but I needed to catch my breath and get through some hard parts before sharing all this - Olivia Munn concluded. Factors such as my age and family history were examined and I had a 37% risk. Thirty days after that biopsy, I underwent a bilateral mastectomy. I went from feeling completely fine one day to waking up in a hospital bed after a ten-hour surgery the next day.
