Major Updates on Teaching Qualification for Middle and High Schools

Important news for the qualification for teaching in middle and high schools. The Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, has signed the decree that redistributes the authorized positions and sets the selection criteria for the academic year 2023-2024: there are 51,753 positions available for the initial training and qualification courses for common place teachers of the first and second level secondary schools by university institutions and Afam. Also by decree signed by Minister Bernini, the quota of positions reserved, 45 percent, for those with a certain seniority in teaching is also defined. Within this quota, 5 percent is designated for holders of teaching contracts in the vocational education and training pathways of the regions. The 51,753 available positions were identified considering the needs expressed by the Ministry of Education and Merit on a regional basis and by class of competition and the educational offer presented by the university institutions and Afam. For the 51,753 positions available for the new pathways provided by Dl 36 of 2022, in implementation of the Pnrr, the obligation to possess 60 university or academic credits, along with a degree if one wants to qualify in a class of competition and then attempt the path of the professorship, has been introduced. Graduates with a master's degree can enroll in the courses to obtain the 60 CFU/CFA, but also those enrolled in a master's degree or single-cycle course (provided they have already taken exams worth 180 credits). 20 CFU of direct and indirect internship are planned. Once the credits are obtained, a final exam must be passed, consisting of a written test and a simulated lesson of 45 minutes in which an innovative educational activity is designed. The costs to participate in the courses that allow obtaining the 60 CFU are set at 2,500 euros. For enrolled students and for those who already have the previous 24 CFU, it drops to 2,000 euros.
