A pain that the couple - already divorced at the time of the murder - never overcame, as the family recounts on the 15th anniversary of the crime that became an international case. The three were tried on charges of complicity in murder and Guede also for sexual violence. After a long judicial saga, Amanda and Raffaele were acquitted and Guede was sentenced to 16 years in prison for sexual violence and complicity in murder with unknown persons. Rudy Guede was released from prison after serving 13 years and stated that Mrs. Knox (Meredith's mother) 'knows the truth and I know the truth.' John Kercher's Death in Suspicious Circumstances After their daughter's death, parents John and Arline Kercher always maintained a reserved silence. But the family's tragedy did not end with Meredith's death: in January 2020, John Kercher, Meredith's father, was found dead a few steps from home in Croydon with multiple fractures on his body and head. He was 77 years old. The police hypothesized that he was the victim of a mugging or hit by a car. However, the true causes of death were never clarified and the police classified the case as 'suspicious death.' Mother Arline Kercher Died at the Start of the Pandemic Four months later, wife Arline Kercher also died at 74 years old, in a hospital in Carshalton, Great Britain, during the first phase of the Covid pandemic in May 2020, and is buried next to her daughter in Croydon, south of London. A housewife of Anglo-Indian origins, Arline went to Perugia in 2007 to identify her daughter's body together with John despite the two being separated. For years during the long trial for Meredith's death, she sought justice and truth for her daughter, describing the judicial ordeal as 'a never-ending nightmare.' The siblings' memory: 'Now they are close to Meredith' 'Every anniversary of Meredith's death makes us reflect, as anyone who has lost a loved one - especially in such tragic circumstances - you don't need an anniversary to remember them, it's something you carry with you every day,' Meredith's siblings said on the anniversary of her death. 'Fifteen years have passed in the blink of an eye, but we have lived a lifetime in between, something that unfortunately was never granted to Meredith.' They also spoke to the English press about their parents' deaths: 'Losing both our parents just four months apart at the beginning of 2020 was a tragedy, but we can take comfort in knowing that they are now united with Mez (Meredith's nickname) and no longer have to live with the pain that consumed them.'
