ROME - We saw Father Georg Gnswein crying last Thursday, on the very day of Pope farewell. We followed him up to Castel Gandolfo where Ratzinger has moved in the apartment that used to summer in as Pontiff. We just didn’t understand where is Father Georg going to live during these two months, ’til the new residence of the Pope Emeritus will be ready within the Vatican walls.

The official version is that he’ll be staying in the same apartment of the Apostolic Palace, together with another secretary and the four Memores Domini sisters who assist the Pope. But this version does not explain why Father Georg moved piles of books and personal belongings to Villa Barberini, the Pontifical Villa he should live in as Prefect of the Pontifical Household. These two apartments are less than a mile away from each other, just a little bit more than Castel Gandolfo main street: will Father Georg just go back and forth?
