It was almost a one-way match between Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz. The German (6th in the world) overcomes the Spanish talent (2nd in the world) in the fourth set of the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. 6-1, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 a score that until halfway through the third set had only one master. Then Alcaraz's tail shot put everything back in play and dragged the race out.

The match 

Zverev gave no respite to Alcaraz in the first two sets, dominating the match with great confidence. In just over two hours he seemed close to triumph. The Spanish 2003 class has hardly ever managed to get back into the game, at least until the last game of the third set. After a first set ended 6-1, Alcaraz tried to recover in the second but did not get beyond the three games. In the third, the Spaniard seemed more on the ball. He kept the set up, recovering from a 5-2 disadvantage and reversing the score to 7-6. It seemed the beginning of a new match but in the end it was not enough to contain the impetus of Zverev who closed 6-4 the fourth set, sealing the match after more than 3 hours.

Zverev-Medved: the semifinal 

Now the '97 German class will face Russian Daniil Medved who overcame Hurkacz in 5 sets. It will be the 19th confrontation between the two with Medved ahead 11-7 in victories over Zverev. Whoever wins between the two will face in the Grand Slam final the winner of the other semifinal, that between Djokovic and Sinner (Friday, January 26).
