In the central areas of Rome, there's a boom in fines by Ama against shops, restaurants, bars, and condominiums that do not respect the rules on waste disposal: they throw them wherever they want, forget to sort them, and often do not even pay the Tari (waste disposal tax).

According to a report from the municipal company, only in the I Municipality, the company's inspectors have issued 647 penalties between January and September of 2023. Delving more specifically, it is discovered that 219 reports were intended for commercial users, the so-called Und, the remaining 448 to condominiums or hotels.

On the first front, environmental inspectors have targeted mainly the owners of bars and restaurants who at the beginning or end of the day throw their garbage in the bins intended for families and do not leave them in the bins for door-to-door collection.

This is a phenomenon that affects both the nightlife areas and the more residential areas where there are fewer premises.

On the front of the other fines, families and hotels, Ama instead wants to intervene to limit abuses caused mainly by B&B and room rental structures, with managers who do not explain to their customers - often foreigners - how to sort materials and how to dispose of them.

For months, the I Municipality has been complaining about being the territory most affected by these phenomena. For this reason, the president Lorenza Bonaccorsi and the Environment Councilor, Stefano Marin, have asked Ama to place two inspectors every day to discover and fine those who do not respect the rules.
