The dome of St. Peter's Basilica will be turned off: for sixty minutes it will be completely enveloped in darkness, and the large cross on its summit will not be visible from afar. The Vatican has decided to join the WWF initiative against the climate crisis by making available the main monument of Christianity. "On the occasion of the Earth Hour initiative, the dome of the basilica will be turned off this evening for one hour starting at 8:30 PM. A symbolic gesture to raise awareness and inspire men and women of our time to respect Mother Earth and to act against the climate crisis," announced Father Enzo Fortunato, director of communications for the basilica and organizer of World Children's Day. Earth Hour, lights out all over the world except in Russia: here's why. The Earth Hour returns on March 23 with 60 minutes of mobilization around the world to protect the planet. The Vatican initiative joins the global mobilization that involves all the great monuments in the world. Earth Hour is an appointment that serves as a beacon of hope to unite people and raise awareness of the global problem. This is the eighteenth edition of the WWF. Earth Hour, Unicredit turns off the lights in 50 buildings of the Group. "In the Encyclical Laudato Si', Pope Francis reminds us that the ecological issue must be centered on ethics and social justice and that what is happening to the earth is an unprecedented challenge that concerns our responsibility towards others and future generations. By turning off the lights of the Dome we join in prayer and action, witnessing our will to protect the 'common home' that God has entrusted to us, so that after this brief darkness the light will shine as a sign of hope for a sustainable future and in harmony with creation," explained Father Fortunato. Earth Hour WWF, WINDTRE joins the initiative.
