Road accident in the afternoon for Gianni Petrucci, president of the Federbasket and former head of the Coni. It happened in Valmontone, near Rome. According to what was reconstructed by the carabinieri, while he was taking a curve in the Colle Pereto area, he would have gone off the road, ending up in a ravine of 7-8 meters. Petrucci was transported by helicopter to the San Camillo hospital, while his wife to the Policlinico Tor Vergata. They are not in life-threatening danger. The carabinieri of the Radiomobile of Colleferro and the station of Valmontone were on site for the surveys.

Severe car accident for Gianni Petrucci: his condition

According to what has been learned from health sources, Petrucci suffered a severe thoracic trauma but his conditions are stable and he is not in life-threatening danger. He is alert and oriented. However, he will be hospitalized in intensive care at San Camillo to monitor the possible evolution. The prognosis is currently reserved.

In the evening, the Italian Basketball Federation, in a note after the accident involving President Giovanni Petrucci, announced "that the president is currently hospitalized at the San Camillo Hospital in Rome, is not in life-threatening danger and is conscious. He has suffered some fractures but his conditions are not serious and he has been kept under observation for further checks".

Who he is

Seventy-eight years old, Roman, born in '45, Gianni Petrucci has been president of Coni for four consecutive terms, from 1999 to 2013, and then held the position of president of the Italian Basketball Federation, a position already held before becoming head of Coni. In June 2023, his entry into the board of directors of Salernitana was also officialized. He was also mayor of the municipality of San Felice Circeo from May 6, 2012, to June 12, 2017, leading a center-left civic list. Graduated in Political Science, he is married to Mrs. Raffaela, and father of Matteo and Niccolò. His career has mainly taken place between the Italian Football Federation and the Italian Basketball Federation (FIP). Within the Federcalcio, he also held the position of extraordinary commissioner of the Italian Referees Association. In 1991 he left Federcalcio to hold the position of executive vice president of AS Roma for six months. On November 21, 1992, he was elected president of the Italian Basketball Federation and subsequently re-elected on June 29, 1996. On January 29, 1999, he was elected president of CONI for the first time. In the period 2000-2001, he was the extraordinary commissioner of FIGC. On May 6, 2009, he was re-elected for his fourth consecutive term: he received 55 votes against the 24 of the challenger, Franco Chimenti, president of the Federgolf. He resigned in January 2013, immediately after the election as president of the Italian Basketball Federation. The exact dynamics of today's accident are under investigation by the carabinieri.
