Sara Curtis in the history of swimming. In Riccione, she qualifies for the World Championships in Singapore and sets the new Italian record in the 100-meter freestyle. Her 53.01 surpasses the record held by Federica Pellegrini, who nine years ago clocked 53.18. Not bad for the 18-year-old from Cuneo, one of the most talented in the Italian team already eyeing the Paris 2024 Olympics. Let's see who the swimmer is who has been making headlines again for her great results in the pool. Born on August 19, 2006, in Savigliano (Cuneo), Sara Curtis is 18 years old, 175 centimeters tall, and weighs 74kg. Born to a Piedmontese father and a Nigerian mother, she is an Italian swimmer specializing in the 50m freestyle and the 4x100m freestyle. She trains in Fossano, about 20 minutes from home, and is part of the CS Roero club. Sara participated in her first Olympics in Paris. Her smile is her calling card, allowing her to approach the sport with joy and passion. She represents one of the brightest talents in Italian swimming. Fast and versatile, freestyle has always allowed her to unleash her explosiveness. More generally, she is a sprint specialist, moving between 50 and 100 in all styles except breaststroke. She took the spotlight in July 2023, when she won three golds and two silvers at the European Junior Championships in Belgrade, in both individual and relay events. At the 2024 Spring Nationals in Riccione, she secured an individual spot for the Olympic Games in the shortest 50m freestyle, breaking the Italian record held by Silvia Di Pietro and setting a new continental junior record. In July, she won seven medals (six golds and one silver) at the European Junior Championships in Vilnius, Lithuania. She is the youngest in the Italian team in Paris but dreams big. On April 15, 2025, she set the new Italian record in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 53.01. Her coach, Thomas Maggiora, who has followed her since she was 6, has been fundamental in her journey. Outside the pool, Sara is a simple girl who loves spending her free time with family and friends. A student at the Technical Economic and Tourism Institute in her hometown Savigliano, she grew up idolizing Marco Orsi, her favorite swimmer. When out of the pool, Sara loves reading and painting, as well as listening to music, which energizes her before competitions. She also loves fashion, particularly American style: 'I love dressing in American style, loose and comfortable,' she revealed in an interview. Sara is dating Andrea Pusce, also a swimmer. Curtis posted a photo of a kiss with her current partner on her Instagram profile. After the result in Riccione, he wrote to her on Instagram: 'Where only you know you can reach.'
