The former Burmese leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been released from prison and transferred to house arrest, an official source told Afp. At the same time, a spokesperson for the country's military authorities stated that older prisoners are provided with "necessary care" during hot periods, so it is not clear whether this is a temporary measure or a true reduction of the sentence being served by the 78-year-old Nobel laureate.

Amnesty

The military junta in power in Myanmar announced that it has granted amnesty to more than 3,300 prisoners on the occasion of the Burmese New Year. Other detainees, according to a statement, will benefit from a reduction of one-sixth of their sentence, except for those convicted of murder, terrorism, and drug trafficking.
