The mayor says he does not want that doctor because he refuses to examine women. The doctor rejects these accusations and asks to take up his post as planned by the local health authority.

In fact, the mayor has promised to brick up the clinic rather than allow the doctor appointed by the local health authority to practice in his city, Valdastico, with 1,156 inhabitants in the Upper Vicenza area. The protagonist of the story, as reported by the Corriere del Veneto, is the mayor of the town in the Upper Vicenza area, Claudio Sartori, who had already had disagreements with the family doctor, Jamal Basal, 55 years old of Israeli origin and Christian faith, already appointed to cover the same role in the city from 2019 to 2022.

During those years, in fact, the mayor had turned to the police, claiming that the doctor not only refused to examine women but also did not want to deal with the directors of the local nursing home. Statements also made in the prosecutor's office that led the police to carry out checks.

Today the doctor has been reassigned by the local health authority to the Vicenza municipality, but the mayor has already changed the locks on the clinic doors and is ready to brick up the building if necessary. On the first of March, Jamal Basal is supposed to start work but "in agreement with the health management - he explains - for the first fifteen days of service" he will be available in a nearby town, Arsiero, "and in the meantime - he concludes - I will make house calls in Valdastico". "If after these two weeks the problem is not resolved by the municipality - he adds - I will see what to do, maybe I will look for an alternative location in Valdastico".
