Swimming Monday opened in the best way for Italy, with the silver won by Nicolò Martinenghi in the 100 meter breaststroke. At the Doha World Championship, the 24-year-old athlete only surrendered to the American Nic Fink.

After a slower start, in the second pool the Italian athlete unleashed, touching the plate in 58"57 ahead of the tricolor champion, who stopped at 58"54 and was able to win the third consecutive medal. Third position for the English Adam Peaty who has returned among the best in the world finishing in 59"10 after a complicated period. A decidedly positive balance for Martinenghi who gets the third medal in the last three editions of the long pool swimming World Championships. The class '99 has won the pass for the Olympics, giving Italy the seventh world medal in this specialty (men).
