On Wednesday, April 3rd, the Memory Track was inaugurated at the Roma Tiburtina station to remember the over 1,000 Jewish people who were deported from Rome to the Birkenau extermination camp on October 18, 1943. Present during the inauguration were also the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, and the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano. At platform 1 of Roma Tiburtina, a multimedia totem in memory of the victims of the Holocaust has been installed. The ceremony saw the installation made with the contribution of the Istituto Luce-Cinecittà that collects testimonies from some of the 16 survivors of the deportation. A video also runs on the monitor that retraces the terrible moments of the ghetto raid, with documents and historical images. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, the Vice President of the Commission against Racism and Antisemitism, Ester Mieli, the President of the Lazio region, Francesco Rocca, the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, the President of the Jewish community of Rome, Victor Fadlun, the President of the Shoah Museum Foundation Mario Venezia, and the CEO of the Fs Group Luigi Ferraris. Minister Sangiuliano said: 'an important brick in the path of Memory'. A concept then echoed by Mayor Gualtieri. 'It is important to carve tangible signs of Memory and remembrance in places'. For the president of the Jewish community, it is necessary: 'to fix the Memory so as not to lose the sense of reality'. 'This,' emphasized the governor of Lazio, Francesco Rocca, 'is the sign of the abyss that we must not forget'. Ester Mieli, on the other hand, reminded the necessity of not falling into indifference. 'Let's not turn the other way, let's not let those acts of antisemitism fall into the void.'
