Gessica Giuliani, the daughter of the former Napoli and Verona goalkeeper, Giuliano Giuliani, gave an interview to Resto del Carlino. The 34-year-old woman recounted her father's death and how she discovered his illness. The historic goalkeeper, champion of Italy with Napoli of Maradona, died of AIDS on November 14, 1996, when Gessica was just 7 years old.

The disease

"They kept me in a glass bubble, I discovered my father's disease by myself when I was 18, doing a research for the linguistic high school. They had always told me that he had died of lung cancer. I found out he died of AIDS and discovering the truth in that way was horrible." Thus Gessica recounted her father's premature death at the age of 38, from a disease that at that time was seen in a bad light and often led to marginalization. "I have a clear memory of those days, I remember that I was continuously crying at school and the teacher made me sit next to her at the desk. I feel I never got over his death and for this reason I have made many mistakes in my love stories but today I am proud that my daughter carries his name".

Giuliano Giuliani has undeservedly fallen into oblivion. Few highlight his career and the daughter also has the feeling that there is no proper celebration for his character: "The thought that he has been forgotten is devastating for me, he did not deserve it".
