Dani Alves is back on free foot after being accused of sexual assault by a woman. As reported by El Pais, the Brazilian footballer has been released from prison after spending a year in preventive detention. To obtain the temporary release, the former Juventus defender had to pay a bail of one million euros, one of the highest ever imposed by Spain.

The former Barcelona full-back will thus leave the jail with the Barcelona Court accepting the defense's request, presented several times, to release the Brazilian. This took a few days to gather such an amount due to accounts frozen in Brazil over a dispute with his ex-wife. The first person he asked for help was Neymar's father, who already contributed 150,000 euros, used to pay the moral damages to the victim thus lowering the sentence. Moreover, Alves could count on some won lawsuits that earned him about 6.8 million euros.

About a month ago, a sentence of four and a half years was issued for sexual assault against a twenty-three-year-old in the bathrooms of a Barcelona nightclub. Initially, the prosecution's request was for 12 years, but thanks to the reduction for compensation for moral damages, the years to be served have become almost a third. Now free after 430 nights behind bars, Alves must comply with some obligations imposed by the court to minimize the risk of flight. He has already handed over his two passports, both Brazilian and Spanish, and must appear weekly at the Barcelona court. Alves cannot leave Spain nor communicate with or approach within a kilometer of the victim.
