Great controversy for Torino-Juventus with the referee Maresca who did not see an incident involving Duvan Zapata and Federico Gatti. The central defender fell to the ground after receiving a blow to the stomach from the attacker. However, the gesture triggered controversy from the Bianconero and the fans, with the match official not intervening. The whistle from Naples tried only to calm the spirits between the two players, without however sanctioning the former Atalanta player. Not even the VAR intervened by calling the referee to the On Field Review and so Zapata was able to continue his game. Roma, De Rossi: "We come from intense matches, I will evaluate who to rest. Criticisms? They don't touch me." What happened At the 18th minute, Zapata and Gatti came into contact after an offensive action by the Granata. With the ball far away, the blow from the Torino attacker to the central defender left the opponent on the ground. A gesture not noticed by Maresca, but captured by the cameras, which was not punished by the whistle from Naples. For this reason, the game was able to continue without problems. Not even the VAR intervened by calling the forty-three-year-old whistle. A decision that unleashed Juventus fans on social media: "For months there will be talk of Gatti's stomach being hit by Zapata's fist", "Crazy that Zapata wasn't even booked", "So the punch when the ball was far away isn't even a yellow card". Why the VAR did not intervene For all those who wondered why in the VAR Room of Lissone no one intervened, the answer comes directly from the regulations. This, in fact, establishes that technology can be used by the referee only in case of a clear expulsion. However, from the images, it is not so clear whether Zapata's action was a punch or a flailing arm and therefore the situation is not classifiable as a red card.
